Super 8

If you haven't heard yet, Super 8, written ad directed by J.J. Abrams and produced by Steven Spielberg is coming out this week. Being a huge Sci-Fi thriller fan I decided to get all over it. The movie is not out, and it's already stirring up a bit of controversy. Some people are criticizing it for its ads,
which do not show images to determine if it’s a monster or what. The ads withhold the plot details as well. When commercials fail to provide sufficient information about the movie, my first instinct is, there is nothing to tell. The movie is not that good, and they withhold it to get you in the theaters.

Paramount Vice Chairman Rob Moore says the movie will be a word-of-mouth hit. Paramount Pictures and Twitter are partnering to present a sneak peek of the Sci-Fi adventure this Thursday June 9, one day prior to its release to the general public. The idea is to have everyone Tweeting about it and promoting the movie.

Do we have a whole new E.T. and The Goonies here? Despite my first instinct, as stated previously, if the trailer says "It has escaped." My question is, from where? Is this a military experiment, or are the military now transporting aliens by train? Then it says, "It has a plan." If it has a plan then it can't be a monster. It's not killing for the sake of killing. I'm intrigued either way. If you see the movie, drop by here and tell us all about it in my comments, well, at least the high lights.

Will it be hot or a flop? Tell me what you think.

Keep watching, and remember… Stay in your write mind.

  1. I Like the fact that they've been vague. Makes me want to go see it.

  2. I think Super 8 seems really interesting. The trailers do show a lot of tension, but it is a bit strange how they're hiding a lot of the movie. Maybe that just makes it all the more intriguing.

  3. @Elena, being vague makes you want to know what it's about. Others may feel the same.

@Madeline, vagueness intrigues you. The truth is the action looks good.

  4. The Matrix's ads were vague too, and I (along with millions of other people) went to the theater for it. Super 8 might be good.

  5. @Amelia, as a Sci-Fi fan I'm looking forward to it being good. I'm just a little curious about their marketing strategy.

  6. Vague advertising is from the school of J.J. Abrams buzz creation. It's what he does best with things like Lost and Cloverfield. I'm seeing this movie tomorrow and pretty excited about it. Anyone seen it yet?

  7. I read a pretty good review the other day from a very critical dude, so I'm hoping it won't be a flop. I watched the trailer in the cinema and it was amazing, albeit confusing. I'll definitely watch it, though I'll try not to get my hopes up, because when I do, nothing can actually meet my expectations. Usually, however, the good movies are the underappreciated ones. Did anyone else apart from me go crazy over Splice? I didn't think so.
