Birth…

These are my four grandchildren. Jaiden is ten days old now and I'm a happy grandfather again.

I found there is nothing more mysterious than the birth of a child. Let me explain to you why this is such a baffling event to me. First of all, I see the human body as a machine. Just like a car it can be moved, and directed to accomplish our needs. Our eyes are the windows to the outside world. We live inside moving the machine at will. Like any other machine, it starts out shiny and new, but with time it will slowly deteriorate. When the machine ceases to function, we leave. This is the only way we can function in this material world of energy and atoms.

Before that though, I am curious about where we come from. Can someone explain the birth of a soul? Although science can explain the conception and growing process of a fetus they cannot explain the soul. It's easier to deny what you can't explain. That has been the catalyst of science research throughout history. That's what I liked about the movie "Contact." Don't give up on the unseen.

What is life? I don't mean your surrounding, or the meaning of which. I mean breath, knowledge of existence. What is the point of knowing, learning, or growing if it's all going to disappear one day? Where did consciousness come from, and where in the universe are we?

Many things can be explained. A doctor can measure the electrical activity of a human heart using an electrocardiograph (EKG). Here's an easy one for you. If a needle was to stab you in the foot the message would be electrically transmitted to your brain immediately along the nerves in your body. These are samples of the energy in the human body.

The basic building blocks of all matter are atoms. An automobile, the air, and the human body are all made up of atoms. Atoms are held together by two things, strong force and electric force. An atom is 99% empty space. In the center of the atom, you'll find the congregation of particles called the nucleus. If you looked at the image above you will see an atom. Doesn't that look like planets circling a sun? Is the universe one enormous atom?

How do atoms and energy relate to love and the birth of a child? Are we simply programmed computers embedded with the data our parents input inside us? If it were that simple my children would be perfect after my programming. My programming did not work. Sure they're wonderful, but not exactly what I wanted them to be. See how everyone wants to live their own life without the intrusion from parents or friends? So I look at my grandchildren, and I wonder who they will grow up to be.

Ah… the excitement of new life, new dreams, new possibilities, and new worlds. If you have children in your life you can see how they develop their very own personalities. Don't those little personalities change and affect your life? Leave a comment telling me how.

And remember… Always stay in your write mind.

  1. I'm not one of those people who gush over kids, but your grandchildren really are adorable!

And... "Is the universe one enormous atom?" Loved that!

  2. @Silve Fox: Thank you. One is always happy to know that one's genes are up to par. Glad you liked that sentence. If the universe is one enormous atom, are we microscopic atoms within a larger atom, within another larger atom, etc, etc, etc...? I think a hear a who.

  8. @Anonymous: Apparently you didn't read the entire post. In no place here do I give glory to science. In fact, I state the things science can't explain. I am a follower of Christ and if you read carefully you'll see biblical references. However, you need to know the scripture to find them.

Thank you for stopping by and I invite you to please continue visiting. But, please understand that this blog is not to express my religious thoughts, but rather my journey as a writer, a science fiction writer at that.
