Need a really good query letter?

I just came across a wonderful interview on Sheri Larsen's blog. Please check it out. Taking under consideration from my last blog that some might find themselves a bit overwhelmed I wanted to offer some light at the end of the tunnel for you. It's not all dread and despair for us writers, only challenging. I love the challenge and I hope you do as well. Along with those challenges, there are also some tools to assist us in our quest.

Today I'm focusing on the query letter. I, not being the best query letter writer, will not guide you personally, but rather show you where you can find the help you need. Please look up Elana J Way on her website. She offers a "FREE" e-book, which I have already downloaded, to assist you with the query letter and much more.

If you would like to see query letters from people who have been published, take a look at Guide to literary agents. This site will show you the actual query letters of current authors that have been published. Agent Query will show you how to write the query letter and help you find an agent for your genre.

Some of you, like me, research everything until you know beyond a shadow of a doubt how to do, whatever it is you're researching. If this is the case, please check out Anne Minnie's blog. She will take you through great details in her desire to help you.

Nathan Bransford has some wonderful ideas on writing that much needed query letter. Having been an agent himself, he knows what agents are looking for and how you need to put it together.

If you are more of a, hands on, kind of person you may be ready for the Query Shark. Please mind the name, she does bite. She explains the query letter by critiquing letters right on her blog. You may take a chance and send her your query and see if she bites. You can also try the Evil Editor, who will pick apart your query telling you what's wrong with it.

Don't give up on your novel, just brushed up that query letter and keep trying.

  1. Great links. I'm not sure I'm going to pursue publishing (probably indie if I do) but it's always good to learn the whole process.

  2. It's nice how there are so many great sources for Query letters. Didn't used to be that way. It's also nice to see people helping each other. These are great links, Orlando. Thank you!

  3. @Liz,
    We writers and aspiring authors stick together.

    @Sherri,
    I'm not sure how I will go either, but I do know there are many routes for self-publishing as well. I've looked into some of them. I may post on it sometime. I've heard many success stories on SP. However, whichever route you decide on I wish you luck, and please keep me posted so I can purchase it.

  4. Please do. Most of my indie info has been from Kait Nolan and through her Zoe Winters and Susan Bischoff. I've not done much independent research yet -- far from needing it -- and know things will change many times before I'm even close!
